1580s(?) – The very first Elizabethan attempt (2004)

Here it is–my very first historical costume!  I completed this outfit in 2004 just in time for the costume contest at the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire.  This was a modified version of the Simplicity Shakespeare in Love costume, making a few adjustments in an attempt to make the silhouette more accurate.  Never mind that the sleeve puffs are black cotton velveteen, or that my farthingale was boned with single strips of rigilene that would never hold out the weight of those skirts, or that my ruff was about eight yards of thick lace gathered to about 15 inches…I was SO PROUD of my work!
